Day 01: Arrive in Lhasa, airport/train station pick up and transfer to your hotel for rest

Day 02: Visit Jorkhang Temple, Barkhor Street, Drepung Monastery in Lhasa

Day 03: Visit Potala Palace, Sera Monastery in Lhasa

Day 04: Drive Lhasa – Gyantse, along the way you can see Khamba La pass, Yamdrok Lake[3950m] 261 km, visit Gyantse Kumbum then drive on to Shigatse

Day 05: Visit Tashilumpo monastery in Shigatse, then drive to Saga

Day 06: Saga-Payang-Mansarover, overnight near the lake

Day 07: Drive to Tarchen (base camp of mt. kailash), ready for next 3 days for trekking

Day 08: Trek about 22km to Diraphuk o/n at local guesthouse

Day 09: Trek about 20 km to Zuthulphuk o/n at local guesthouse

Day 10: Trek about only 6 km down to the point where our landcruisers will be waiting for us, drive to Tarchen o/n at local guesthouse

Day 11: Drive Tarchen to Saga

Day 12: Drive Saga to Zhangmu via Peiku Lake

Day 13: Border transfer Zhangmu to Kathmandu


Detailed itinerary:


Day 01: Arrival in Lhasa by air or train

Once you arrive at Gonggar airport or Lhasa Train Station, an easy one hour or half hour drive will take you to your final destination of the traditional hotels (Shangbala Hotel, Dhood Gu Hotel or Yak Hotel, etc) or guesthouses. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing and exploring some of the many sights in Lhasa.


Day 02: Visit Jokhang Temple Barkhor Street, Sera Monastery in Lhasa

On this second day morning we will take an easy visit to Jokhang Temple. This temple is the most revered shrine in all of Tibet and is constantly bustling with devout worshippers. We will also be given the opportunity to shop in Barkor, the crowded central market of Lhasa. In the afternoon we will visit Sera Monastery, a fifteenth century sprawl of golden roofs and whitewashed walls. This well preserved monastery is located just a few miles North of Lhasa and is home to several hundred monks. Its famous debating activities are happening 3-4pm quite regularly every day, so remind our guide not to miss it.


Day 03: Visit Potala Palace, Drepung Monastery in Lhasa

A trip to Tibet would not be complete without experiencing the vital Potala Palace. This palace is Lhasa's cardinal landmark and is a wonder of Eastern architecture. Your first site of this massive structure will be a magical moment remembered for years to come. It has been a palace since the fifth or sixth century and was once home to the Dalai Lama. This truly amazing day will ended with a visit to the Drepung Monastery. Once the world's largest monastery, housing 10,000 monks, Drepung monastery lies hidden in rocky ridges just beyond the city. Surprisingly much of the building was left untouched throughout hundreds of years.


Day 04: Lhasa to Gyangtse then to Shigatse

Today's trip is little bit demanding but fascinating, we will corss two high passes over 5000m Khamba La and Kharo La plus one beautiful Lake - Yamdrok Tso provide wondrous views of the Himalayan range. A colossal glacier rises nearly straight up from the road as we pass Kharo La. The drive is no daunting task as we pass through many more beautiful Tibetan valleys and quiet villages along the way. When reach Gyantse, We will be given the opportunity of experiencing more wondrous Tibetan culture as we see the Gyangtse Dzong and Kumbum. Expansive views of the valley can be seen from the ancient Dzong fort. The Kumbum is much more than a stupa, as it is surrounded by numerous Tibetan murals and small chapel houses. Even if you are no art connoisseur you will be amazed by these ancient murals and architecture. After the visit in Gyantse we will continue another one and half an hour easy drive to Xigatse, the second largest city in Tibet, overnight stay will be at the best Tibetan Mansarover Hotel.


Day 05: Drive to Saga

In the morning, visit Tashilumpo Monastery in Shigatse. Our final destination today is the small town of saga. We will cover many miles during the day but also encounter alluring river valleys and scattered villages.


Day 06: Drive to Mansarovar

Even more gorgeous Tibetan landscape will surround us as we drive to Paryang. After several river crossings we will finally arrive at the shores of Lake Mansarovar. Prepare for one of the most awe-inspiring and holy places you have ever seen. Today is arguably one of the most beautiful days of our entire journey.


Day 07: Drive to Tarboche

After only a 35 km drive we will reach Tarboche. Tarboche marks the start of our religious 53 km trek around the mountain. Finally we have arrived!


Day 08: Trek to Dira-puk

From Tarboche, we walk up the Lha Chu Valley through beautiful green meadows and streams with Mt Kailash towering above us. We follow the river, which enters a narrow canyon with high, steep cliffs and spectacular waterfalls. Continuing up the valley, the north face of Kailash comes into view before we reach the 13th century monastery at dira-puk


Day 09: Trek to Zutul-puk

We now leave the Lha Chu Valley and enter the Drolma Chu valley, heading up towards a high pass, the Drolma La [5630m]. it's a tough climb to the summit which is festooned with prayer flags but from there it is all downhill or flat to Zutul-puk, with views of one of the highest lakes in the world, Thukpe Dzingbu Lake, known as the lake of compassion. As well as the monastery at Zutul-puk, there are several meditation caves and another cave containing an image of Milarepa


Day 10: Trek to Darchen

On the final day of the kora we cross several streams, and follow an impressive gorge. Along the way we are once again treated to magnificent views of Kailash. We then enter the Bharka plain and it's about an hour's walk through this desert-like landscape to Darchen.


Day 11: Drive to Saga

Today is another driving day as we head towards Saga. Take in the sights of the small dusty towns along the way! Today gives us more time to appreciate this truly ancient Tibetan culture.


Day 12: Drive to Zhangmu

In the morning we will drive through yarlung tsangpo [brahmaputra river]. As we continue our journey stunning himalayan views surrounds us once again. Along the way you will see many attractions including Shishapangma and Peiku-tso, a large majestic lake. Another 180 kilometers is tackled as we head down the Friendship Highway. Along the way we pass through the small town of Nyalam. After Nyalam we descend down through a mossy gorge and brilliant cascading waterfalls. We will spend the night in Zhangmu, a border town.


Day 13: Drive to Kathmandu


In the morning we cross the Bhote Kosi river using the friendship bridge. At this point we must bid a fond farewell to our Tibetan guide and go through all the border formalities. Our last night will be spent in the bustling city of Kathmandu. Sadly our trip has come to an end.
